Relatronica is a design studio born in Switzerland in 2024 from a team of designers and researchers who met at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. It combines speculative design, civic tech and knowledge mapping to explore future scenarios and create tools that help communities understand, discuss and navigate the complexities of the contemporary world, fostering informed participation in decisions affecting humanity.
Relatronica was born in Switzerland in 2024 from the meeting, at CERN, between designers and researchers who share the same question: how can we use technologies and data to truly engage people in choices concerning humanity's future?
CERN is one of the symbols of international scientific collaboration. It was here, in 1991, that the World Wide Web was born, conceived as an open space to share knowledge and make information accessible to everyone. Since then, the Web has revolutionized our lives, but many crucial decisions – on climate, energy, research, infrastructure – are still perceived as distant, technical, poorly participated.
We design alternative future scenarios to stimulate critical thinking and open conversations about possible futures. Through prototypes and narratives, we explore the ethical, social and technological implications of possible developments.
We develop digital technologies that empower communities and improve access to public information. We create tools that facilitate civic participation and democratic transparency.
We visualize relationships between concepts, data and ideas to make knowledge more accessible and understandable. Our mapping tools help navigate complexity and identify hidden connections.
